Power Plant Construction
The flood in 2011 had caused between Herisau and Hundwil, the so-called Hundwiler Tobel, massive damage at the city's water intake.
The St.Gallisch-Appenzellische power plants were forced to repair the damage to the rack and pinion drives the panel contactors. Here, the question was, should the old mechanical control renewed or should it be replaced with a new modern hydraulic control. In the evaluation of costs, I found out that a solution based on a hydraulic actuator, the shooter would also offer financial benefits.
Therefore, a metal construction company was commissioned gravel, sand, and the two intake gates with the new technology equipment. This was done in conjunction with the company Bibus Hydraulik AG the large for over 50 years know-how has in the oil hydraulics. The company is based in Fehraltorf which mainly deals with solutions and components for industrial and mobile hydraulics, has designed and delivered the new hydraulic system. These include 4 hydraulic cylinders with piston diameter of 125 mm and a stroke of 1650-1820 mm. This 4 contactors can be individually controlled, electrically or manually.
Had the old mechanical installation no Control Panel, and then the company, Bibus Hydraulics configured and installed, a new, standing on the cutting edge of technology, control system for the new facility. These included a control cabinet with all the necessary components, such as monitoring and operating and control elements. It should be emphasized that this new control system was equipped with a wireless remote control. This exercise was also necessary, as that the hydraulic unit is stashed in the engine room, and there is no visual contact with the actuated Protect is possible for the operator.
Since the site is accessible only by trail access, all material had to be brought on site by helicopter. This was an additional logistical challenge, which was placed on the metal construction company and Bibus hydraulics.
Delivery, installation and commissioning on site was realized within a short time so that the water intake could be integrated quickly into the water mains again.
